I am excited to share with you my first novel in a series!! "Out of the Blue", a love story of historical fiction. The story begins in 1916 in Massachusetts with Jack, a mute who feels he has no purpose in life. After his beloved younger brother tragically dies, he sets out on journey of rediscovery only to meet Lizzy. A feisty Southern woman who is determined to stand straight and tall even though she has been tormented by her father-in-law, abused by her no-good husband and traded in a poker game by her father. At the heart of it all is Rollins Farm, a tobacco farm that was once was the largest in all of South Carolina. Some of the characters you’ll meet are Rudi, Lizzy’s dear sweet uncle and Kathleen, her best friend who would do anything for Lizzy including hiding a tremendous secret that is at the heart of the story.
In doing genealogical research for her family, Elizabeth Blake Schloemer came across some information that sparked her imagination and created an American tale. Out of the Blue is her first novel. Elizabeth loves history, the arts, fashion, and being creative, all of which have guided her in developing the details of her story to make it really come alive. She currently lives in Northern California with her husband, son, and dog. She has a background in art history, fashion history, and paleontology.
My American saga. Over several years I have written an extended story about a couple who meet in 1918 under unusual circumstances, fall in love, and create a family. Their pledge to one another is to find love for everyone they love and that is what they do over six decades until they die 1993. It’s just about two very different people, from two very different worlds who by chance fall in love and create a life together. Which is what the title of the book is - Out of the Blue. From South Carolina to Massachusetts, Lizzy and Jack live an extraordinary life that they share with their three sons and their grandchildren. It’s an unconventional life as Jack, a puritanical New Englander, is a mute, and Lizzy, an unorthodox Southerner is a strong-willed survivor. Both broken souls and on the brink, they help each other by learning to trust, forgive, to laugh, and to love. As the story grows so does Jack and Lizzy’s love for one another.
(This is a work of fiction, and not history. The characters are not real but are set in an actual timeline. If they resemble someone you know, it’s just a coincidence.)
Flower on the cover of the book ~ the Nicotiana, a flowering tobacco plant.
